Where has God Gone

Where has God Gone?
An examination of the forgotten Power through poetry
Recently, it seems as if humanity has slowly drifted away from being enlightened with the knowledge of the almighty power of God and His presence in their daily lives. It has either slipped their minds, been forgotten, or they just had no knowledge of His presence to begin with. The world has forgotten it’s one and only Creator. ... They simply don’t have time for God anymore. Prayers have been forgotten, praise has slowly ceased, and who can imagine waking up early on a weekend to attend services? Even once society acknowledges their forgetfulness, they find it difficult just to find time to place God within our lives on a daily basis. ... The world has slowly begun to forget about God and perhaps, through these spiritual poems, they have received their wake-up call to understanding their forgetfulness. Kathleen Raine’s “Loss of Memory” and Denise Levertov’s “Flickering Mind” and “Primary Wonder” all reflect upon how our knowledge of God has been forgotten in the rush of our daily lives and how we no longer worship Him to the extent He deserves. Each of these poems have the power touch our hearts in a special way by awakening our faith, and forcing us to realize that the time has come for us to once again remember our Creator, who has never once forgotten His people. ... God has become “unspoken in a time that has forgotten” (Raine 6). To the world’s children, Mary and Eve are simply names of the Pop singers they watch on the television because the knowledge and faith of God has never been passed onto them. It is the job of the human society, as Christians, to share with them their knowledge of Mary, the Mother of God and the story of Eve and her garden. They have gained the knowledge of God through their parents, family members, friends and religious leaders who spread God’s “Good News”. ... Through Raine’s poetry, she is making a statement on how humanity has forgotten to pass on and teach their children the power and the goodness of God, and if not done soon, how will they ever learn of it? No longer praised as he once was, humanity has been getting caught up in the less important things of daily life and using “I’m too busy right now.
