The growing concern amongst the greater Baton Rouge area is the increase in the animal population. Every year the animal population increases due to the recurring theme of fewer and fewer pets being spayed or neutered. The people in charge of dealing with all these animals are the workers at the Animal Control Center in Baton Rouge. ... Since the Animal Control Center only has eighteen workers on their staff, most days are hectic with constant work needing to be taken care of. ... With so many problems facing the Baton Rouge Animal Control Center, it is amazing that the few workers they do have have not lost their minds. The City and the Parish Councils should take into consideration the hard work and the time that the ACC puts forth into ridding the streets of strays, taking care of each animal, enforcing animal control laws, and keeping the public safe. ... More money would lead to better housing for the animals, more staff help, more animal food, and better salaries for the employees that are working for half of what they deserve.
