Many rookie members of athletic teams face some form of hazing. Hazing is defined as harassment, abuse, or humiliation by way of initiation. Hazing is not solely practiced by athletic teams but is seen in fraternities, the military and even the workplace. But not much is really known about hazing, because it is very secretive. A rookie is expected to keep the practices of hazing private and so it is usually only in the instances where tragedy occurs that we learn of hazing.
When hazing gets out of hand, invariably someone gets hurt and in the most tragic cases, there are deaths. ...
And out of control hazing is not limited to males.
