Crucible means, a severe test or trial. Both of those points were the basis of Author Miller’s novel The Crucible. Miller shows the test and or trial through insight, the power or act of seeing deeper into a situation. This is shown mostly through character insight. Some of the more developed characters that Miller used were: Elizabeth Proctor, the wife of John Proctor. She is mid aged and has three children. The reader was told that she has lately been sickly. More insight was revealed through John Proctor, Elizabeth’s husband, a farmer, a man who will stand up for what he believes in no matter who he has to stand up against. Insight was also illustrated through Reverend Hale. Hale is a foreigner who comes to give his advice about the demonic sprits that are claimed to be in Salem. Elizabeth Proctor is a gentle and kind woman. Elizabeth shows that she is discourage when John leaves the house.
