I must admit that the Transtheoretical Model assigned reading was somewhat overwhelming at first. After reading over it several times, it is my understanding that after studying and comparing different therapy systems of processes of change, Prochaska and DiClemente came up with a model of a basic structure for processes of change that can be implemented in a person’s life. The model shows different stages and processes before and after a person makes a decision to overcome a problem they may be having.
According to Prochaska and DiClemente, a person goes through several stages before any changes take place. ... As I look back, I can see where I applied some of the processes that the Transtheoretical Model is based upon when I made the decision to stop using drugs. ... For people who are willing to change, the Transtheoretical Model process of self re-evaluation would apply.
