We are free! On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence. After years of tyranny and unjust rule, we have finally officially denounced our loyalty to the throne! The declaration, written by a committee of five, headed by Thomas Jefferson, includes our unalienable rights, charges against the king for his totalitarianistic ruling style, and the declaration of our independence from Great Britain. It is time for us to unmask King George for “the Royal [Brute] of Britain ” that he is and use our Common Sense. When asked his opinion on the declaration, Abraham Clark replied, “I know that my small fortune and safety will be at risk. However, I would rather be six feet under because of my morals and convictions, then having to live with the fact that I was too cowardly to stand up for my country.” As it is assured that many are not completely informed on the matter at hand, and therefore, it shall now be explained shortly, but with the most clarity possible.
