The movie Amistad described the reality of slavery and human rights. The perspective of trading humans as property or goods for sale or trade was horrendous. To think anyone could have such little respect for human life was despicable. The movie itself made a deep impact on the senses, realizing the struggles against prejudice and inequality that existed. To see the reality of our past on the film was quite shocking. It took a lot of courage on the part of the Africans to fight for their freedom and let the truth be heard about their struggles; this was inspiring. Speilberg presented the events that took place on the Amistad before landing in New England as a savage attack that Cinque and his people had taken against the “civilizers” of the Amistad. The movie described a true story that revealed the savage behavior of the Spanish captors. They kidnapped the Africans from their homeland for profit. When a miscalculation of provisions jeopardized the success of the trip, they casted a portion of slaves overboard by tying them to a weighted chain.
