Ethics Article Analysis

Unethical conduct can damage the reputation, and even perhaps the very survival, of a company. Financial executives play an important role in the development of ‘ethically intelligent organizations.’ After the recent unethical financial practices that have occurred in corporations such as Enron and WorldCom, financial executives have been placed in the role of ethical scrutiny and placing more stringent behavioral expectations within the company. An article in the Chicago Tribune from November 2003 discusses how Boeing handles unethical actions in their financial decision making. Ethics has a large impact on the financial decision making process. Boeing fired its chief financial officer, Mike Sears, for improperly recruiting a US Air Force official, Darleen Druyun, to join the firm and lying about it.
