Legalizing Marijuana
Marijuana or Cannabis Sativa, has been part of American culture Since the Colonial Period. ... Though the health risks of the drug are debatable, when compared with other legal drugs such as cigarettes and alcohol, marijuana proved to be less addictive, less harmful to its users in the long run, and the drug alone has never killed anyone (“So You Wanna Know… Legalization of Marijuana” 2). To stop Americans from breaking the law, marijuana needs to be legalized. It has been proven that marijuana prohibition is not working. Instead, it has done nothing but create an underground black market, which has “eroded our civil rights and corrupted our justice system” (“So You Wanna Know… Legalization of Marijuana” 2). ... government has yet to truly study marijuana and the health risks associated with it. Even so, it has been proven that marijuana has a “negligible therapeutic ratio”, which means that you do not have to use very much to get the desired effect (“So You Wanna Know… Legalization of Marijuana” 4). Puff for puff, marijuana users are at a greater risk for lung cancer than cigarette smokers, but the fact that marijuana is twenty times less addictive than cigarettes means that cigarette abusers would more than likely be using as much as fifteen to twenty times more tobacco than
