There are many views on racism today, especially racism in the courtroom. ... He believes that many of the problems in the black communities could be resolved if the youths had someone to look up to, which is why he enjoys allowing black high school classes to observe how his court works. ... He grew up in the south where racism was very strong, and witnessed many instances of racism first hand. He notes that the Civil Rights Act of 1964 had the biggest effect on cutting back racism in the United States. He knows that there is racism in the courts and he explains that one of the most racist decisions the Supreme Court ever made was in 1896 in the Plessy v. ... He has a very strong opinion and has given examples of why he is concerned with racism in the United States courts, including an example from the infamous Rodney King case.
