Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been.
Connie is a normal 15 year old girl. Connie, unlike her older sister June, is very beautiful. June is chunky and plain. She’s a 24 year old girl who still lives at home. Their mother constantly nags at Connie to be more like her sister June. Connie sees through her mother, and knows she is the favorite, because she is more beautiful then June. Even though her mother constantly nags at Connie that June is better, Connie knows she’s more favored then June. Knowing that, Connie thinks constantly about her looks. Her mother tries to cut her image down by yelling at her. Connie does not care because she knows beauty is everything. Connie spends her night out with a friend. Her friends father picks them up at 11 without asking or caring where they went. After being dropped off at the mall, the two of them race across the busy street to a burger place where all the older kids go. This is a world Connie knows little of. June works at Connie’s school. Which Connie of course hates, because she has to see her sister. Even thought June is seen as a bore she does go out. Of course, it’s with people who are as dull and boring as June is. However, since June is allowed out then Connies parents do not mind letting Connie go out as well. When Connie’s not out on the town she stays at home getting in her mothers way. The tone of her mother is always all-knowing and condescending towards her. Connie is vain and her mother can see that. So, in her own way she tries to cut down Connie’s high self image. Being that she also was beautiful in her youth, she knows the dangers of being so self centered; she’s afraid Connie wont be able to ward off danger when it comes her way. Connie’s father is a cold and detached man. This of course makes her mother unhappy. Her unhappiness makes it hard for her to connect with Connie. This is why she hasn’t taught her daughter to be careful when she is out and to be wary of strangers. Connie’s mother does try sometimes though. She asks Connie questions to make sure she is hanging out with the right crowd when. Her mother will ask about young girls Connie’s age and Connie will draw thick clear lines between them. She almost feels bad for taking advantage of her mothers foolishness. When Connie would go out with her friends she would be dropped off at the shopping plaza so she could see a movie or go shopping. She and her friends would giggle to each other when they saw someone who amused or interested them. Connie was beautiful and had long dark blond hair that made everyone notice her. When the girls got bored of the shopping plaza they would dash across the highway to a drive-in restaurant.
