One of the negative elements that is evident in rap music is the language. When it comes to rap songs, words and melody go hand in hand. ... According Leland, “Often the words (in rap songs) reflect the frustration over poverty, drugs, violence, poor schools, family breakdown and racial tension,” as stated in Contemporary urban music: controversial messages in hip-hop and rap lyrics, 1992. ... This may directly affect the language used by teenagers as not only will teenagers start to include curse words in their daily vocabulary but they will also start to converse in a particular slang and in colloquial language with their peers.
