Helen Keller

The Charges of Helen Keller
Helen Keller suffered total annihilation of her sight and hearing at the age of 19 months from a debilitating disease. Helen had her world open up to her by her teacher, Anne Sullivan. Who found a way through Helen’s frustration and began to show her that there was more to life than Helen’s small sphere of existence. At the ages of eleven, twenty-three and fifty-two, Helen Keller was assaulted by accusations, doubts, and plagiarism. Helen was considered a carbon copy of whatever she produced in literature and in this manner depreciated the real thing. The allegations were that Helen was substituting other people’s words for her first-hand perception in her stories and books. ... (Okick, par 2)
Before Anne was introduced to Helen as her teacher, Helen had invented a system of sixty simple signs called imitations of intelligence. ... Helen could fold laundry, pick out her own clothing and having discovered the use of a key, she shut up her mother in a closet.
