When making a piece of art of a human figure, one is depicting oneself or one’s own kind. In doing this, it’s often the case that the artist will recreate a human figure in a way that represents a fancied human form, one that would be more intimidating, or one that is representative of a religious creed. The art in Ancient Near Eastern art and Ancient Egyptian art all served one or more of the purposes above.
