Thomas Alva Edison
“He led no armies into battle, he conquered no countries, and he enslaved no peoples. ... Thomas Alva Edison is one of the shapers of the modern world. ... Seventh son of Samuel and Nancy Elliott Edison, Thomas Alva Edison was raised in a middle class home. After three months of grade school his teachers considered him “addled” or retarded, thus he was taken out of school by his parents and was educated at home by his mother, who was a teacher (Thomas Alva Edison). At home Thomas Alva Edison was an avid reader, especially in the genre of science. ... After this incident, Edison’s ability to hear began degenerating for the rest of his life (Thomas Alva Edison 1847-1931). Over time Thomas Alva Edison was able to hire other boys to sell these things for him, and gained permission to build a laboratory in a baggage car of a train. When phosphorus fell and burned through the floor of one of the cars, Edison was evicted from the train and he headed to the city of New York (Thomas Alva Edison 1847-1931).
At the time of his death, Thomas Alva Edison had one-thousand, ninety-three patents in the United States, and thousands of other patents in some two dozen other countries (Jenkins).
