THE DEBATE OF THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. ... The right to bear arms for the American citizens has been guaranteed so far. ... Grammatically the amendment does not clearly state whether a Militias and the right to bear Arms shall not be infringed, or “the people” are the Militia. ... Thomas Jefferson stated in the original Virginia Constitution, “No freeman shall be debarred the use of arms (within his own lands or tenements). ... )” One could come to the conclusion that this indicates that to him individual citizens should retain the right to bear arms.
