macbeth was a noDeath on the Ice" is an account of stranding of the S. S. Newfoundland in the ice and the death of 77 of her crew. These men froze to death on the ice flows while lost in a storm. One of the key and most controversal figures of this disaster was Captain Abram Kean, who was captain of the S.S. Stephano, also at the same seal hunt. He gave orders that the men of Wes Kean's ship, the S. S. Newfoundland, return to their ship. This order ultimately cost them their lives. The ship captains attitudes were also quite undefeated. They thought too much of is shown in the novel Death on the Ice that Abram Kean cared more about the seals than the men. The sealers were a big part of the traditional hunt. They had a hard time facing the conditions. The sealers lived in hope and their living conditions were poor. They wore poor clothing(Brown,1972).
