Drew Christenson Period 4 11-07-02 Savagery William Golding tries to show human evil through Jack. In Lord of the Flies Jack is not caring; he is power-hungry, and evil overall. His actions are just like those of a human today. He and his choir resent all kinds of authorities and restricting rules. Jack is filled with envy and desire of revenge towards Ralph and his rules. In Jack’s world, anarchy rules. Jack’s main aim of the assemblies in the novel is to first become chief, and then control of the group. “I ought to be chief.”(p.23) He believes he should be in control of everyone and that no one should control him. He tries to take control of the assemblies. “we need hunters to get us meat,”(p.33) he does this because he wants to be in control of what the group does. Jack attempts to assert control over the other boys; Jack claims that he will be the chief and that they will go to Castle Rock to build a fort and have a feast. Jack rules over the boys with the trapping of an idol. Jack treats the boys, especially Piggy, as inferiors. When he gets meat from hunting, he gives everyone some except for Piggy.
