St. Barnabas
“For he was a good man, full of the Holy Ghost and of Faith”, St. Luke made this quote in reference to St. Barnabas showing the great appreciation and respect he had for St. Barnabas. ... St. Barnabas was and still is regarded as one of the early Christian Church fathers who dedicated his whole life to the ministry of Christ. St. Barnabas was a good man, a great companion, and an even better Christian who welcomed even the lowest sinner into his life. St. Barnabas’s life throughout the New Testament, Church teachings on him, and the inspiration and affect he has had on many lives, especially mine, will be explored.
All that is known of St. Barnabas is found in the New Testament scriptures. ... His name was changed to Barnabas, which means “Son of Preaching” because he was known for his amazing teaching abilities. ... In his lifetime, Barnabas gave up all of his earthly possessions and gave all his proceeds to the Apostles. Barnabas “sold a piece of property that he owned, then brought the money and put it at the feet of the apostles. ... In Jerusalem, Barnabas persuaded the community to accept his best friend, Paul, as a trustworthy disciple of Christ. Barnabas “took charge of him (Paul) and brought him to the apostles, and he reported to them how on the way he had seen the Lord and that he had spoken out boldly in the name of Jesus. ... Barnabas was sent to Antioch, Syria in order to convert many of the non-Christian citizens. ... Once Barnabas and Paul were in Jerusalem, they picked up John Mark, Barnabas’s cousin, and they once again returned to Antioch as seen in Acts 12:25.
