The Youth Criminal Justice Act was put into effect on April 1st of this year and already it has been questioned, as to if it will be effective. Many people believe that this new act will not reduce youth crime. The Youth Criminal Justice Act does not have harsh enough penalties for young offenders, it does not treat young offenders fairly, nor does it ensure justice to them. ... Vic Toews, justice critic for the Canadian Alliance says that “the Liberal government could have been tougher on young offenders, what we are doing is breeding a disrespect for the law in ignoring the so-called minor offences, criminal activity will continue. ... ” This type of attitude received from the government is allowing youth to commit crimes more easily with lesser charges.
