Johnny Got His Gun: Dalton Trumbo The main character in my story was a war victim by the name of Joe Bonham. He was in an unfortunate accident when he crossed the path with a high powered explosive shell, which not only placed him in a hospital for the rest of his life, but he also had to get all of his major limbs chopped off. He had no eyes, ears, nose mouth, tongue, legs, arms, taste, anything. The only senses he had left were those of temperature. Joe Bonham is a remarkable character, and the story is told in what is considered an interior monologue voice. Note: Since there was not a lot of dialogue in this novel, I had to use his thoughts to shape his character. Past · In the first chapter of the book, you learn that Joe’s father died when he was a young boy , which makes a big impact on the book as a whole, because Joe’s father seems to be a big influence on his life, as he has recollections of his father periodically throughout the book. I think this is the reason why Joe Bonham is afraid of death as well, because he faced it while he was younger, and therefore has always been afraid of his fate. · Joe lived in a rather conservative, small town.
