	Gilgamesh is a powerful figure of a man but a poor king: he tyrannizes his people, exhausting men in combat and claiming the right to sleep with any woman before her marriage. To keep him busy, the gods Anu and Aruru create a rival for Gilgamesh, Enkidu. ... With Shamhat, Enkidu travels to Uruk to meet the lonely Gilgamesh, who has been dreaming of the coming of a companion. Enkidu and Gilgamesh meet and match each others strength in combat: quickly, though, they cease fighting and, with a kiss, seal their friendship. Gilgamesh resolves to travel to the Forest of Cedar, where he will try to kill Humbaba, the forests superhuman guardian.
