ISSUE: Evaluate M&S’s overseas expansion efforts and recommend what actions M&S should take in expanding to new overseas markets in the future. RECOMMENDED COURSE OF ACTION: M&S should continue its efforts in overseas expansion, especially new markets have to be established in North America and Far East in order to become the world’s leading retailer with a global brand and global recognition. The international retail business should consist of three geographic areas in the future: Europe, North America/ Canada and Far East. This growth can be achieved through international retail entry strategies, e.g. acquisition or controlling equity share of local retailer, joint venture and franchise-systems. Furthermore, M&S should emphasize on long-standing partnerships with local suppliers in order to ensure an efficient supply chain management.
