In this world today it can be very hard to find good, loyal friends. Most of the time we look at someone and stereotype that person for what he or she may look like, instead of taking the time to really find out what kind of person he or she may actually be. It is so hard for us humans to look beyond outward appearances. Most of the time a person that may seem to portray the looks of a good friend, usually does not contain the important qualities as a good loyal friend should. Mac and the Boys in John Steinbeck’s novel, Cannery Row, display an extremely good example of loyal friends and their unexpected appearances. Even though Mac and the Boys may not seem like the best of friends to have, they display the qualities of true friendship in their relationship with Doc. The most apparent thing that people notice about Mac and the Boys is their appearances. Mac and the Boys are homeless and live on Cannery Row.
