a dolls house
Is Nora A Good Wife? “A Dolls House,” by Henrik Ibsen is an example of an archetype where a wife is supposed to be perfect! Her job is to keep the house, behave properly and keep up appearances to others that life is perfect. This is all artificial just like a play doll house is. The two main characters in this story are a husband, named Torvald and his wife Nora. Nora is like Torvald’s doll in this marriage. He tells her what to do and how to behave without any consideration that she’s an adult, and can make decisions herself. Torvald grew up in a middle-class family that taught him the value of hard work and money. Nora grew up in a rich family, where her father provided everything the family needed. In their marriage, Torvald struggles with the fact that even though they are doing well they aren’t rich. He argues with Nora about her lach of financial concerns, because she’s used to spending money freely. He usually “gives in “to her. Treats her like a child.
