This paper explores pupil (secondary 3 students, mean age 14 yrs old; secondary 5 students, mean age 16 yrs old) accounts of the classroom context in which their sex education lessons take place, investigating, in particular, reasons for discomfort and factors that mediate this discomfort and facilitate pupil engagement.
