Whaling has been a way of life for many people for thousands of years. The earliest evidence that whaling existed dates back to 2nd century B. ... Not until around the middle of this century did the issue of whaling become controversial. There are different reasons for whaling. There is whaling for scientific purposes, whaling for cultural purposes, commercial whaling, and there is aboriginal/subsistance whaling. The problem at hand is that many groups believe that whaling has gotten out of hand and many species of whales have gone extinct.
