Daniel Murphy Poetry essay COMPARE DEATH AND DEATH BE NOT PROUD In this essay I will compae death and eath be not proud, these poem’s are alike but have different qualities and a different meaning. Firstly, in "Death be not proud," Donne tells Death that it is not anything special. That Death is a low being that deals with the pitiful aspects of life: war, disease, and murder. Donne says that Death is nothing more than an aspect of life, just an event of the moment, "one short sleep past, we wake eternally." Donne goes on to explain that we all will go through this door while on the way to another existence. It is clear that Donne was obsessed with death, and this is probably why most of his poems are about death. Also Donne uses a variety of poetic elements. These elements function in enhancing the work’s unconventional theme of man’s superiority over death. The rhyming in this poem goes A-B-B-A, A-B-B-A, A-B-B-A, C-D This is, in its own right a weird rhyming method, but Donne is a smart man and knows what he his doing, he like to keep the reader "on their toes", and throws weird obsticles at them, like "and death shall be no more; death, tho shalt die" suggesting that death shall itself die and the reward shall be no more.
