In society today, there is a trait increasing in strength and smothering moral values; this trait is greed. Greed has been defined as excessive desire, or avarice, a rapacious desire for more than one needs or deserves. ... Greed is the basic cause of many evils that corrupt us today. Not all agree that greed is harming society. Michael Milken, a former financial executive, says, “Greed is good”. However, evidence will show that greed is dangerous and destructive. ... The difference between normal desire and greed might be likened to the difference between the small campfire that cooks food and the blazing inferno that consumes a forest. ... Just like the inferno, desire can be fed by its surroundings escalating into greed. A strange characteristic of greed is that it is so insidious, even people normally content with their lot in life will manifest greed if unexpectedly given the opportunity.
