“Who I Be” Portfolio: Vignettes A Bus Load of Friends Joey, Willie, and I arrived at school fifteen minutes earlier than scheduled. We were probably the last people to be in the band room. Amanda was sitting on the far left with Brenda and Melissa Shukdinas. I was surprised to see Melissa without her boyfriend, Ed. They were typically joined at the hip. Carl, Tara, and Michelle were standing at the front of the room. Since they were the closest, I walked over to them first. Michelle gave me a hug and I dropped my bags. I looked around for Melissa Smith; she was to my right up a few steps. I strolled over, gave her a hug, and said good morning to Gina, George, James, Kim, Rachael, and Crystal. Joey was standing with them, too. Just as I started to speak, Mr. Otto, the band director, said it was time to load up the buses. I felt unbelievably lucky to be one of the two freshmen who were on bus five. The other freshman was my best friend, Amanda. We were the only two cool enough to hang out with our elite group of friends. I sat in seat thirty-six. I was on the opposite side of Amanda and Carl, who wereone row behind. Ricky, a kid from the Double Dozen, was my seat partner. He slept most of the way up and all of the way back. Shannon brought Center Stage which wasn’t too bad of a movie, just long. I spent most of the time looking out the window. There wasn’t much to see, but the cows and horses actually seemed to be more pleasing than hearing Crystal’s loud mouth complaining. Once again, I wondered why anyone on the bus put up with her. Oh well. She was graduating anyway.
