Hirsch Essay Hirsch’s quote is an attack on the education system of today. He states “To withhold traditional culture from the school curriculum, and therefore from students, in the name of progressive ideas is in fact an unprogressive action that helps preserve the political and economic status quo.” He feels as though the education system is holding out on its students. Therefore, by not informing the students of too much they are preserving the economic and political status of the nation. Someone who isn’t educated well enough most certainly isn’t going to run for office in the government. So therefore, if you aren’t financially able to send your child to a private school where they will receive a good education, they will probably have no better of a life than their parents did.
