GROWING UP As I drove from St. Louis to Elmhurst to begin my college career, it hit me, it was time for me to grow up and leave the world that I once knew behind. I would no longer be able to run to my parents every time I needed help or had a problem. In just a few short hours I would be completely on my own. I drove my car the four and a half hours from my suburb in St. Louis County to Elmhurst College while my mom sat in the passenger seat trying not to cry because “her baby was going off to college.” I had shed a few tears when saying goodbye to my closest friends and younger sister, but I still had not accepted the fact that I was starting college and would no longer be living in my parents’ house.
