Bagel Hockey Case I. Productivity - Poor A. Problems: 1. Customers not being attended Causes: A. No employee motivation to do a good job B. Lack of proper supervision and direction C. Lack of proper training and direction D. Inadequate reward system and job feedback – monetary & verbal Recommendations: a. Promote Henry Delano to supervisor and fire Ernie Slim because Henry appears to have better supervisory skills, communication skills, and a much better work ethic than the current supervisor. this would enhance the workplace and show the current staff that you are rewarded and punished for your job performance. b. Replace current supervisor with one of the regular weekday supervisors (on a rotating basis) whose livelihood depends upon job performance. c. Hire students that are studying to become chefs or workers in the food service industry to apprentice at the school. This would give them good work experience and training and they would probably be more attentive to customer needs. Close off the kitchen area where they play their games so that the current staff becomes more productive. When the staff knows that they are being watched they will stop their gaming. The manager, Mrs. Laraby may also reassign the staff and restrict the kitchen area to only one or two employees under certain conditions.
