Josef Parnas on Schizophrenia and the Self
In his article “Anomalous self-experience in early schizophrenia: A clinical perspective,” Josef Parnas discusses the early symptoms of schizophrenia and how they affect an individual’s perception of his “self” through “morbid self-experiences.” These morbid self-experiences are instances when an individual’s first-person experiences are somehow distorted; they occur during the premorbid, or pre-onset stages of schizophrenia. Further, he states that studies have determined that self-disorders are the core feature of schizophrenia. ... Shaun Gallagher discussed as a major characteristic of schizophrenia, there are various other symptoms of schizophrenia preceding its onset.
