Society s Way of Survival
I assume that survival is one of the most important things to man in our world today. ... Although both Staples and Eighner identify problems in our society dealing with minorities, Staples takes a negative attitude towards these issues by looking at the down side of his experiences, whereas Eighner sees the positive side of things by always looking on the bright side of life. Both articles made me question my views and attitudes the individuals who must struggle to survive in our society, especially minorities. ... People’s feelings are very diverse and some people dont care if someone judges them on looks alone; it is their problem if they are focused too much on looks. In Staples’ case, however, he did care what people thought about him and, if he hadnt learned to smother his rage, he might have become violent towards people in society for judging him on his appearance. Eighner, on the other hand, has negative views of people in our society, but he moves away from judging other people and focuses on his own life instead. ... Both writers agree that survival is one the most important things in their lives. ... I feel that Staples wrote his paper in a sort of negative way because that is the way people are; they are scared of what they are not used to.
