1) First of all, the location of Germany is a key idea because it is in the center of Europe. It is a great strategic location for a strong military. But it could also be bad if you don’t have any allies adjacent to you. The second key belief I noticed in the chapter is split between the north and south. This parted the Catholics (south) from the Protestants (north). At the beginning of the Second Reich, the boundaries started changing and Germany became unified for its first time. This ultimately led to World War I. 2) My first choice is the Second Reich held by Bismark because of the unity it set up for all the Germans. Next I would choose the Treaty of Versailles because it put Germany to blame for the war and led Germany to the Holocaust, which would be my last point. When Germany took the loss, Hitler came into power as chancellor and blamed the Jewish businessmen. This stereotype went into effect and resulted in millions of deaths. 3) The rising of the Second Reich is my watershed moment because it put Germany under one power. Not only did it cause unification, but also it eventually led to World War I, which in turn, led to the Holocaust and World War II.
