7th hour
Pride, greed, cowardice, betrayal, and self-concern; these are just some of the internal battles that Beowulf faces throughout his life. ... Beowulf and most other heroes in epic stories have to fight that feeling and move on. Not only do Beowulf and many of the other heroes have to fight against the internal battles, but they also have to fight the external battles against the world’s mightiest monsters. ...
During this epic, Beowulf fights in three different external battles; one with the giant swamp monster Grendal, the second with Grendal’s mother, and the third with a fire-breathing dragon. In all three battles, Beowulf chooses three different ways to defeat his opponent. During his battle with Grendal, Beowulf fights with his hands only.
