Cannery Row is a series of stories that take place in a little community in Monterey. Throughout the book are individual stories of different members of the community. The story mainly follows the adventures of a man named Mack and his friends, and their elaborate plans for throwing a party for a man know as Doc. Everyone in the community loved Doc for his overall good-natured personality, and he was generally known as the local scientist and handyman. To raise money for the party, Mac and the boys borrow a truck and go out into the wilderness to gather frogs to sell to Doc. Eventually they get enough frogs to raise enough money for the party.
