Renaissance period was a time of rebirth in Europe where ancient Roman and Greek elements had a major influence on art and impacted the entire culture and lifestyle of the time. Two better known artists would be the great Michelangelo (1475-1654) and his rival of the time Leonardo (1452-1519). The typical art styles of the time were paintings and sculptures with subject matter ranging from biblical depictions to portraits. Leonardo tried many new styles of art, some productive and some failures, he basically invented some standards still in practice today. Michelangelo was more a sculptor but also a renowned painter. His works often depicted religious imagery. Religion was a major part of life and culture in this time period. The “Baroque” period took place from around the 1500’s to around the 1700’s.
