What if grades were all that we were judged on? ... Jerry Farber, a professor of English at the University of California gives us his thoughts on grades throughout this article. Farber stresses, “Grades don’t make us want to enrich our minds; they make us want to please our teachers. Grades are a game”(333). Students believe they need grades to make themselves do the work and learn, but I agree with Jerry Farber in his essay “A young person’s guide to the grading system” that grades are not necessary to motivate students.
Farber believes that grades are involved too much in how we judge people and only rely on how well they do in school to what kind of person they are.
