“Knowledge is Power”—Sir Francis Bacon
Throughout the past thousands of years, human knowledge has provided mankind with power over other species and each other. Over time, humans have adapted to the environment and have the knowledge that enables us to survive. ... Sir Francis Bacon ocne declared that “knowledge is power,” and I could not agree more. Not only has knowledge supplied humans with the tools to control the environment, but the individuals who posses certain aspects of knowledge are those who are the most successful and hold the most power. ... The poisoners of the time had an abundance of terrifying power. Possessing the power to take someone’s life was just the beginning; they had the power of killing in a way so discreet that “unless the murderer was seen to add something to the food, nothing could be proven” (Meek 9).
