Methods of communication within a University

Introduction

In this report I shall examine existing methods of communication within the University of Westminster at the Marylebone campus, and propose improvements in the way Students and Lecturers communicate. ... I shall conduct primary research, in a form of a questionnaire, which shall be distributed amongst the students, which will enable me to gather information on the student’s views on communication. I shall be able to find out what the students feel is the most useful type of communication, the type of communication they use most frequently, to identify any problems with communication that they have incurred, and their ideas on improvement. ...

Firstly in order to proceed with report, it is vital first to establish a definition of communication.

Definition 1
‘Communication is the transmission of information (a message) between a source and a receiver, using a signalling system. ... ’

From the above definitions, I can define communication as;
The transfer of information from a sender to a receiver using a medium,














OBJECTIVES

Primary Objective

On instruction of the Student union, I shall produce a report on the existing methods that the University of Westminster, on the Marylebone Campus, communicates with its students and lecturers.


Secondary Objectives


1)     To identify and describe different methods of communication within the university.
     

2)     To critically examine the above methods of communication.

3)     To rank the above identified methods of communication from most important to least important in terms of its effectiveness within the university.

4)     To gather primary information from the students at the Marylebone campus about their thoughts on communication within the university. ...


5)     To gather secondary information from sources such as the Internet, to look at the effectiveness of existing methods of communications


6)     To explore any possible improvements that can be made to the existing methods of communication.


7)     To identify new methods of communication which can be used with the university to enhance the effectiveness of communication at Westminster University.
