There has been a great deal of controversy in the recent past (as there probably still is) concerning the definition of the “N” word in Merriam Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary. The dictionary defines “n---r” as a ‘socially disadvantaged person’, possibly implying that all blacks are inherently socially disadvantaged. ...
Mostly, I believe the N word should not be kept in the dictionary, although I have a small defense as to why it possibly should be. The N word is undoubtedly extremely offensive, and such a word shouldn’t be incorporated or promoted in the English language. “N---r” is a cuss word, and for the most part, we don’t find those anywhere in our dictionaries and, at any rate, we certainly shouldn’t.
