Reaction and Physical Properties
Reaction and Physical Properties Purpose: To gain familiarity with the boiling points of an organic compounds, and to understand how to use these characteristics to classify organic compounds. Procedure: 1. Fill your beaker three quarters full with distilled water. Place an immersion heater in the water; allow the water to begin to boil. 2. Place 2ml of 2methyl, 2propanol and 2 ml of hydrochloric acid in a reaction vial. Weigh the vial before you but the liquids in, and after each one, therefore you can calculate percent yield at the end of your lab. 3. Seal the cap of the vial tightly, then shake the mixture thoroughly.
