I came across the “King of the World” quite by accident. ... The “King of the World” is a book that has greatly inspired and impacted me. The “King of the World” is the Pulitzer Prize winning biography of an American legend; Muhammad Ali. ... Remnick begins by painting the events that that created Ali’s world. ... He was a young, confident, supremely talented, big mouthed upstart from Louisville, the likes of whom the world had never seen before. ... It was a fight that Ali won quite convincingly, and then famously climbed on the ropes to shout down at all the boxing writers that had him picked to be torn apart; “I am the king! King of the World! ... ” Remnick proceeds to paint the world that Ali created, the world that is Ali’s ultimate legacy. ... The heavyweight champion of the world was in Ali’s days one of the most public figures in America. ... The “King of the World” is quite simply the best biography that I have ever read, and possibly the single greatest piece of literature that I have had the fortune to come across. ... For the longest time after I read “King of the World”, I just could not enjoy any other book.
