Explore The Links Between Two Chronological Periods Of Drama
In this essay I shall try and explore the links in drama throughout the Greek and medieval theatrical periods, this will include the play Lysistrata by Aristophanes, a Greek comedy dramatist, whos early Greek comedies are remarkable for the violent satire with which he ridiculed the democratic war leaders. ... The other play that shall be included in this essay is the medieval drama Everyman, which is a medieval morality play. Drama traces its origins to religious observances both in Greek and European traditions. Twenty-five hundred years ago, two thousand years before Shakespeare western theatre was born in Athens, Greece. Greek theatre was shaped and moulded in to the style that we know today during the periods of 600 and 200 BC. ... Only two other periods in history can be compared to theatrical genius of the Greeks, Elizabethan and Twentieth century. ... It was 534Bc that the major theatres began to be constructed with two most prominent being built in Delphi and Athens, the attic theatre and the theatre of Dionysus. ... During performances the chorus useually entered the stage through either one of two entrances, between the scene and the seats called "paradoi", which were situated on either side of the stage. There were two references for the auditorium of a greek theatre , "Kolion or Theatron". ... Before the new playwright appeared on the scene greek drama competitions were a collection of dithrambs and satyr plays, however the new playwright turned the scene around and the dithrambs became drama. ... There were forms of Greek theatre, tragedy and comedy, the genral theatre going public favouritised these two forms throughout most of history. ... When the first of drama were derived it intial intention for this was to teach religious lessons, and to show them which were the right paths in life to take. ... By the time of Sophocless death in 406Bc, 128 years after Thepiss victory in the first Althenian drama competition the golden era of Greek drama was drawing to an end. ... The medieval drama of Europe was deeply influenced by the traditions passed on by wandering entertainers from imperial Rome.
