... The topic chosen for research is the loss or death of seagrass in Nepean Bay, Kangaroo Island. ...
The Issue:
The issue is the major loss of seagrass in Nepean Bay, Kangaroo Island, and finding out the cause so that sea life in the area doesn’t suffer as a result of the problem. The bay holds many forms of marine life which rely on the seagrass as a source of food and shelter; if the grass dies the marine life will also. ... One metre of seagrass produces ten litres of oxygen per day so without the seagrass there is loss of oxygen both to the atmosphere and to the sea which is the cause of marine life death. ... The farmers and residents of the Cygnet River, the largest river system on the island, are particularly involved as the river ends up in Nepean Bay. ... Time is relevant to this issue because if some immediate action isn’t taken all the seagrass will die resulting in the death of the marine life. Seagrass only takes a small time to die but a long to grow so we need to protect it and find the cause very soon.
