Surviving the Camps
Elie Wiesel’s memoir Night focuses on Elie’s harsh life in the concentration camps. The memoir described the many problems Elie had faced in order to survive in the camps. Elie’s main focus, though, was to survive the camps, stay motivated, and help his father survive. There are three main themes focused in Night to help further explain the hardships Elie had to undergo for survival that the camps: Motivation, Religion and the faith in God, and the relationship between Father and Son. ... In the concentration camps, religion helps the prisoners to endure, and it seems that nothing can shake their faith. ... ” (Wiesel 64) Elie tried to get the understanding of why God helped the Jews in situations, but not at the camps when they needed Him the most. ... Before entering the camps, Elie’s father was occupied with his business and the doings of his community. ... The three themes described were used as tools that helped Elie survive through the concentration camps. ... Both religion and motivation also played key roles to Elie’s survival in life and at the concentration camps.
