The Matrix: Allegory of Plato’s Cave
1.List the ways in which the lead character (Neo) lives in a world like Plato’s cave as the movie begins. ... If an enlightened prisoner came back to the cave, Plato predicted that the other prisoners would reject the truth that he has gained and would be forced to put him to death. ...
The main theme of the matrix seems to be appearance vs. ... There are two worlds in the matrix, one where humans are not held back by the restraints of the matrix and are able to control their selves and learn useful knowledge. ... In the matrix, truly good just seems to mean accepting that the matrix is unreal and for Neo, trying to liberate the human race. In Platos world, the Good is the knowledge that good (God) is the highest power. Cipher is a disappointment as he has fully recognized that his world is false but yet prefers the falsehood to the truth, which isn’t always as pleasant as the matrix. ... This concept is also depicted in Plato’s Cave. Plato said that many of the prisoners would rather commit murder than to leave the cave and accept the truth. ... Neo’s movements toward greater understanding parallel the movements of the prisoner in the cave whose is freed from his chains. ... Just as Jesus incarnated into a human being to enter the world, Neo also ‘incarnates’ into the matrix to save humanity.
