The article that I chose focused on what happens during a typical science lesson in an urban elementary school consisting of low-income minority children. An educational psychologist, a science expert, and an elementary education expert observed, by video, the science lessons of four elementary school teachers. The observers conducted an interview with the four teachers prior to a science lesson observation, asking them questions relating to pedagogy. ... The reason the author decided to conduct this study on science education stemmed from the disparity in science scores of students from urban schools versus suburban schools. According to the author, urban elementary science education was not effective in developing basic scientific literacy needed for success in high school science classes.
